Can You Still Get Enough Exercise During the Covid-19 Pandemic?

During these times when we are facing a global pandemic, staying at home is probably the best thing that we can do to stay safe. If you have constantly visited gyms before, then it would be much better to start exercising at the comforts of your own home.

Note that the coronavirus tends to spread fast, so staying at home and doing your workouts there one your own is much better and healthier for you than visiting gyms and attending group fitness sessions.

Although some gyms have opened up in certain cities in the country with all of them following the strict guidelines set by the Health Department to minimize the spread of Covid-19 among their members, it is still a good idea to avoid them for now until these dark days have passed.

For you to start your individual training at home, here are a couple of exercises that you can do, especially if your place is on lockdown:

  • Jogging/RunningYou can still go jogging outside if you want to, but you need to follow the health guidelines set by the Health Department. For instance, keep your distance from other joggers. It is best to keep around a 4-meter distance between you and the person jogging in front of you.
  • Work on your general fitness Because you do not have access to your regular gym equipment, targeted training might not be an option right now. For instance, you may have a hard time building muscle mass now if you do not have access to a set of heavy weights. During these times of crisis, it is best to focus on your general fitness instead. Work on keeping your core strength and cardiovascular conditioning for the moment so that when the time comes that you can train seriously once again, your body can jump back into the daily grind like normal.
  • Make use of bodyweight exercises – Even if you do not have even the basic gym equipment in your home, you can still get a quality workout just by utilizing your own body weight. There are many exercises that, when used in conjunction with each other, can help build strength and aerobic health in just a short amount of time.

Some of the exercises you can do while quarantined at home are squats, pushups, crunches, burpees, and lunges, among many others.

Conclusion

Aside from the simple workouts and tips mentioned, it also helps to stay in touch with your fitness community. Whether you are a professional competitive athlete or just a fitness buff, keeping in touch with your friends using online social media channels can motivate everyone.

You can use online conference apps so you can work out together, or set a virtual race and compare finish times afterward. Yes, times sure are bleak right now, but that is not an excuse to just sit on your couch while waiting for things to blow over. You can still get enough exercise during the quarantine period. You just need to make the necessary adjustments to your usual routine.
