How can you start taking better care of your health?

The older you get, the more you need to think about improving and protecting your health. There are many factors that go into protecting your health, so the question for you is where is the best place to start? Here are some simple tips for protecting your health.

Reduce your weight and keep it off

Busy work, little time – the busier you are and the busier you are, the harder it is to maintain your weight. Then it’s even harder to reduce excess weight. But you have to realize one thing: if you manage to get your weight under control, you lower the risk of many diseases, such as various heart diseases, cancer and diabetes. For that alone, it’s worth the effort.

Exercise regularly

One way to manage your weight is to get enough exercise every day. That means incorporating more activity into your daily routine, preferably regular exercise. But also a better attitude towards an active lifestyle, e.g. taking the stairs instead of the elevator, will help you. Optimal would be at least 3 training sessions per week of 30-90 minutes plus active lifestyle (depending on your health situation).

Stop smoking

Are you a regular smoker? If so, now would be a good time to quit the habit. If you smoke out of habit, it’s very hard, but you should try. The health benefits of being a non-smoker are so numerous that they don’t fit into this article. There is nothing good that comes with this habit from a health perspective. You lose quality of life over time and increase your risk for numerous diseases. Reduce or at least slow down your smoking frequency. Smoke less and less often. That’s a start!

Limit your alcohol consumption – zero to one is best

Alcohol is a part of our society and generally accepted. This often tempts people to drink more and more alcohol. After all, it can be really fun to drink and dance the night away. But is it healthy? Too much alcohol, and especially regular consumption of alcohol, damages the entire body. Limit your alcohol consumption significantly. Don’t drink every day, at most every other day, to give your body time to detoxify.

Eat healthier

If you want to lose weight and live healthier, you need to supplement your life and workouts with a balanced and healthy diet. Means: more vegetables and fruits. Also, it is important to eat lean meat or, in terms of an environmentally conscious diet, tofu as a source of protein. If you want to go completely vegan, you can replace the meat with vegan protein sources like tofu. Eating more healthy also means that you need to avoid many foods that you possibly used to enjoy, such as fast food, overly sweet desserts, and junk food in general.

Avoid too much sun exposure

You should continue to expose yourself to the sun, especially in the morning, because it is your most important source of vitamin D. However, you should avoid sitting unprotected in the sun for long periods of time because the UV rays can also cause cell damage. It can also increase your risk of developing skin cancer.

As you can see, protecting your health means making some “trade-offs”. When taking measures, ask yourself if you are gaining more, or losing more. Stay active, keep up with the latest changes in news and science. Health know-how is constantly evolving. Stay up to date with self-responsibility. No one is saying that healthy living is easy. But your life is worth considering all options.
